Frequently asked questions
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, everything you share in the session is kept confidential. Apart from if you express a clear plan to do severe harm to yourself or another person. If I need to break confidentiality, I will do my best to inform you in advance.
How much does it cost?
The fee for individual therapy is 15,000 yen (tax included) and lasts 50 minutes. Relationship therapy is 22,000 yen (tax included) and is 90 minutes. This can be paid in cash on the day or in advance by bank transfer.

Are you a licensed therapist?
Yes, I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
How many sessions will I need?
Therapy is often an open-ended process with each client deciding for themselves when they feel ready to be done. However, if you have one specific issue that you would like to focus on or have budget concerns then we can decide from the beginning to have a set limited number of sessions.

Relationship/Couples therapy is often more short-term. I usually recommend having 6-8 sessions and then taking stock of where the relationship has gotten to and how much therapy has impacted it.
How long are the sessions?
Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes.
Relationship therapy sessions are 90 minutes.
How often do I need to come?
I recommend starting with weekly session for at least the first month or two. This is to be able to build up a sense of therapeutic momentum together. Some clients like to have fortnightly sessions after they feel the bulk of the therapeutic work has been done. This varies from client to client. Most of my clients so far have elected to have weekly sessions throughout our time together.

Where are the sessions held?
My office is in the Tor West area of the Motomachi neighborhood in Kobe. It is approximately 5 minutes walk from either JR Motomachi station or Hankyu Kobe-Sannomiya Station. I am also happy to have online sessions.

What is the cancellation notice period?
I ask that you cancel at least 48 hours in advance of your appointment. If you cancel less than 48 hours before your session time then I will ask you to pay in full for the missed session. For the complete cancellation policy, please click here.

Do you accept payments from insurers?
No, right now, I am not accepting any insurance. However, I am happy to add any information you need on the invoice to claim the session to your insurance.

Do you offer a free first session or consultation?
No, I used to offer a short conversation time for new clients, but ultimately, I found that it was not enough time to dig into what brought them to therapy. That is why I prefer to start with full sessions from the beginning.

I am interested, how do I begin?
The first step would be to email me at keiyamasakitherapy@gmail.com or fill out an inquiry on the contact page to book a first session, there is no obligation to continue if you are unsure about therapy. During this first session, we can talk about what brings you to therapy, and you can get a sense of if you would like to proceed with me as your therapist.
